Postseason kicks off Saturday

Teams from across the state in Classes 1A and 2A begin their trek to the Iowa High School Athletic Association state tournament with sectional competition Saturday. Sectional meets are scheduled to begin at noon.Sixteen sites in each class will be held, including three at area 1A schools and four area 2A hosts. Alburnett, Iowa Valley in Marengo and Maquoketa Valley in Delhi will host 1A sectionals. Fifth-ranked Alburnett will be trying to win its first sectional title, but No. 8 Lisbon is in the field and looking to add to its numerous sectional crowns.Dyersville Beckman, North Fayette in West Union, Solon and Benton Community in Van Horne will hold 2A sectionals. Rivals Independence and West Delaware head to Beckman, who is hosting for the second straight year. MFL MarMac and top-ranked Denver/Tripoli are in the field at North Fayette.Sectional champions and runners-up advance to district tournaments Feb. 12, vying for berths to the state tournament Feb. 16-19 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Sectional team champions and runners-up advance to the regional duals Tuesday, Feb. 8, attempting to advance to the State Duals tournament Feb. 26 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
