LISBON - Ryan Parmely had rushed for 200-plus yards in three of his first four games this season. And Friday night when his team needed him the most, the bulldozing senior added a 300-plus yard rushing game to his repertoire.
Parmely carried No. 1 ranked Maquoketa Valley (5-0) to a 41-26 victory in a back-and-forth battle last night against Lisbon (2-3).
Maquoketa Valley's senior workhorse rushed for 324 yards and five touchdowns on 43 carries.
'Our line, we're not the biggest out there, but I think we have the most heart,” Parmely said. 'Lisbon's a tough team and it took all 11 of us on offense to come out firing for us to win tonight.”
Lisbon started strong driving down the field 65 yards for a touchdown on their first possession. Then Lisbon defensive back Ryan Light intercepted a Jeremy Fischer pass for a pick-six and a 12-0 lead.
Parmely answered for Maquoketa Valley as the ball left his hands just once on the next possession. The Wildcats drove the ball 72 yards (69 yards credited to Parmely) as he capped the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run.
The Wildcats then took advantage of a short field as Parmely pounded the ball in for a 2-yard score to give Maquoketa Valley a 14-12 at halftime.
The senior's dominance continued as he rushed for a 57-yard TD on the first offensive play of the third quarter to put Maquoketa Valley up 21-12.
Lisbon responded by adding touchdowns from Benton Frey and Brock Givens as the score remained close at 28-26.
The Wildcats then closed the door on Lisbon when Trevor Koopman scored from 8 yards out. Parmely added his fifth touchdown of the game to wrap up the 41-26 victory.
