#oniowapod — Do we think Greg Davis will be back in 2017? You have to listen
Marc Morehouse
Nov. 29, 2016 5:58 pm
Land of Ten's Scott Dochterman texted today and said let's do a podcast.
I was like, 'Sure, let's do a podcast. What are we going to talk about?'
Kidding about that part.
We talk the Nebraska result and what it says about ... Nebraska. We talk Iowa's bowl destination. Scott believes the Music City Bowl is the play right now. I'm not so sure. That'd be two teams 'jumping' Iowa in bowl pecking order that Iowa beat. But does that even matter anymore (no, it probably doesn't)?
We talk all-Big Ten. Really listen to this part, because this is the part where I tell you Iowa LB Josey Jewell is going to get screwed. And, when the email drops during the pod, you later learn that Jewell got screwed (screwed? I guess it's up for interpretation).
And then we take your Twitter questions.
Holy smokes, you guys are stuck on FIRE GREG DAVIS.
We take a good chunk of those questions. Let me play Devil's Advocate here.
Is that the laziest take?
You saw what happened to Iowa WR. Iowa's offensive line had seven different lineups and, as a tweeter accurately points out, it still has troubles in pass blocking. I'm sure when Iowa's season is over we'll hear something about a CJ Beathard injury (if not immediately then after the NFL combine, it'll be kind of like when a team is eliminated in the NHL playoffs and then you hear its star player fought through a punctured lung).
It's one thing if I say it, it's another to hear it from Kirk Ferentz. And this answer is it. It's on the record and it's Ferentz saying it:
'You look at it just right now, I still think C.J. Beathard is a heckuva player. A year ago, he had an NFL center snapping to him. He had an NFL tight end who made a lot of big plays week in and week out. He had George as our second tight end. We had VandeBerg and Tevaun. Now compared to what he's working with, you wonder why the numbers aren't the same? I don't even know how they compare. I haven't looked at them. I don't care to right now. It's common sense why we're not the same team offensively. We're pretty much doing the same things we were doing a year ago. We haven't gotten that dumb in a year. So, sometimes you have to look at the little details and how things pull together.'
Are your 'fire Greg Davis' takes really all that hot? Is it just what you react to? Or are they just lazy?
I think a little bit of everything there.
We get a few 2017 football questions. I kind of liked those. Never too early.
We took a few basketball questions. Don't know about Tyler Cook's finger, but we'll soon find out if we already haven't.
Is Desmond King the best overall player of the Kirk Ferentz era?
Got a great question on DT Faith Ekakitie's assertion of racial slurs being hurled his way during the Nebraska game. Nebraska is looking into it.
Let's see what Nebraska has to say. There were similar accusations coming out of the Clemson-South Carolina game last weekend.
How is this happening in football? I don't get it.
Thank you for listening.
