North Fayette continues to be the cream of Class 2A football in Northeast Iowa. And the cream has risen.Second-ranked North Fayette routed MFL MarMac, 59-8, in a 2A District 4 game Friday at West Union. That put the Hawks in their customary perch -- alone atop the district standings at 5-0 overall, 3-0 in the league.MFL MarMac entered the game unbeaten in the district after a double-overtime win over Monticello in Week 4."I expected the game to be a knock-down, drag-out fight," said Hawks Coach Bob Lape.It wasn't. North Fayette marched to a 40-0 lead at halftime, and the Hawks racked up 492 yards of offense. This sort of dominance is nothing new. North Fayette is chasing its seventh consecutive district title."There's a lot of pride in our kids," Lape said. "They realize the tradition that has been established here. Football is important to our community, and the kids realize that it's a big deal."When a kid here gets an oppotunity to play, he's going to play lights-out. We have a lot of seniors who are first-year starters that have waited for a long time for their chance."Reid Nuss attempted just eight passes Friday, but completed five for 146 yards and three touchdowns. Jake Greco rushed for 109 yards on 15 carries and reached the end zone twice. The Hawks are averaging 48.6 points per game, the highest scoring rate in 2A.
