STANWOOD - If you pass through Stanwood and see the North Cedar High School principal chasing kids around town, don't worry. These kids aren't running away from him, they are running with him.
Dain Jeppson not only is the high school principal, but also the boys' and girls' cross country coach.
The North Cedar cross country teams have grown this year with nine more runners than last year. The team has 10 boys and 13 girls competing.
Runners have been getting in shape, mile by mile, for their first meet, which was on Sept. 4 at Iowa City Regina.
With 10 seniors leading the group, all the runners are setting goals for a successful season. At the Regina meet, seniors Riley Holst and Levi Ruchotzke demonstrated their leadership by placing the highest in the boys' race. The girls' best performance came from freshman Tessa Fields and senior Kylie Marshall.
North Cedar competes Tuesday at meet in Tipton.
The North Cedar cross country team has a little fun outside the school.
