No. 9 Lisbon withdraws from regional duals

Feb. 8, 2011 3:17 pm
Iowa High School Athletoic Association Assistant Executive Director Alan Beste confirmed that Lisbon will not compete in the Class 1A regional dual Tuesday at North-Linn High School in Troy Mills. The forfeit is due to an outbreak of a communicable skin condition that wouldn't allow them to fill enough of their lineup to compete, according to Beste, who oversees wrestling for the IHSAA. The Lions (18-2) were ranked ninth by the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association, and plans are for them to return Saturday to compete in the 1A district meet at North Cedar Middle School in Clarence. East Buchanan, ranked 13th with a 19-10 record, was supposed to wrestle Lisbon in the regional semifinals but now will receive a forfeit and face the winner between No. 4 Alburnett (21-3) and Wapsie Valley for a berth to the State Dual tournament Saturday, Feb. 26 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids. According to the Lisbon Wrestling Facebook page, the team is not competing for medical reasons and for the safety of their wrestlers and their opponents. The post then urged fans to come to support them at Saturday'as district meet.
