No. 11 Mount Mercy edges Clarke in overtime: Small College Men’s Basketball Roundup

No. 11 Mount Mercy squeaked past Clarke, winless in the Midwest Collegiate Conference, with a 101-94 overtime victory last night at the Hennessey Rec Center in Cedar Rapids.
Mount Mercy improved to 20-3 overall and 7-0 in conference games. Clarke dipped to 6-17 and 0-7.
Two free throws by Dondre Osborne with 16 seconds left got Mount Mercy into the overtime period at 77-77, then the Mustangs went off for 24 points in the extra five minutes on the strength of 5-of-6 3-point shooting.
Osborne led the Panthers with 23 points. Kyle Lamaak added 16 points, Ian Matos and James Boonstoppel 14 apiece.
Mount Mercy shot 62.9 percent in overtime and 56.7 percent in the game.
CORNELL 60, KNOX 53
- Cornell opened a 36-26 halftime advantage at the Small Multi-Sport Center in Mount Vernon and persevered from there in a Midwest Conference game.
Tabori Carter scored 20 points for the Rams (6-13, 5-9) and was joined in doubles figures by Nick Bobb (12), Jessie Spearman (11) and Corey Davis (10).
Knox is 5-14, 3-11.
LUTHER 58, SIMPSON 51
- Luther warmed up in the second half at the Regents Center in Decorah, shooting 52.2 percent in the second half after shooting 26.7 percent in the opening 20 minutes of an Iowa Conference game.
Jake Martin posted a double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds for the Norse (7-13, 3-6), who trailed 24-23 at halftime. Cody Kliethermes added 14 points.
WARTBURG 86, COE 70
- The Knights had their way with the Kohawks in an Iowa Conference game at Waverly.
JT Vonderhaar scored 15 points for Coe (13-7, 7-2). Jacob Timm and Matt Vonderhaar added 13 points apiece.
