CEDAR RAPIDS -- Yes, Larry Niemeyer's resignation as basketball and softball coach was listed on the latest minutes of the Cedar Rapids Community School's Board of Education.
What does that mean? Nothing really, according to Scott Kibby.
"It's just a formality with IPERS," said Kibby, the athletics director at Cedar Rapids Jefferson, referring to a teachers' retirement package.
Niemeyer retired as a teacher at Jefferson after the 2010-11 school year. He said at the time that he intended to return this year as coach. He still does.
SourceMedia Group has received three e-mails from the public in the past week, inquiring about Niemeyer's future.
Kibby said Monday that he expects Niemeyer to be on the sideline this winter, in the dugout next summer.
"He does have to re-apply for the job," Kibby said. "We haven't even posted the position yet."
Niemeyer is the nation's winningest softball coach and has led the J-Hawks to three state softball titles and one in basketball.

Though Niemeyer's resignation was posted on the Cedar Rapids Community School Board minutes last week, Niemeyer will coach at the school in 2011-12 school year, according to AD Scott Kibby.
