Mount Mercy tops William Penn in OT

No. 18 Mount Mercy won a high-scoring Midwest Collegiate Conference affair Saturday, outgunning William Penn, 91-86, in overtime at Oskaloosa.
The Mustangs (15-3, 3-0) survived a cool-shooting 25.8 percent and trailed 35-26 at halftime. They warmed up in the second half to the tune of 49 points, then outscored the Statesmen 16-11 in the extra period.
Kyle Lamaak led the Mustangs with 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting. Excellent balance followed: Ben Struss 13, Ian Matos 12, James Boonstoppel and Dondre Osborne 11, Da'Quan Moore 10.
KIRKWOOD 77, IOWA LAKES 45
- Kirkwood poured it on in the second half after leading 33-26 at halftime in Cedar Rapids.
Four Eagles reached double-figure scoring: Jordan Ashton 16, Ronald Singleton 12, Joseph Tagarelli and Matthew Lassen 10 each.
Kirkwood improved to 14-4 overall and 1-1 in the ICCAC.
COE 80, LUTHER 72
- Coe kept Luther winless in Iowa Conference games with the victory at Decorah.
JT Vonderhaar scored 17 points for the Kohawks (9-6, 3-1), Jacob Timm and Matt Daoust 16 apiece. Timm made it a double-double with 12 rebounds.
Jake Martin scored 18 points for Luther (4-11, 0-4). Aaron Huber added 12 points, Nathan Meyer 11.
MARY 69, UPPER IOWA 56
- Jordan Hay hit a pair of free throws to cut the lead to three, 45-42, with about 15 minutes to play, but the Peacocks never got any closer last night in Fayette.
Mary went on a 12-2 run after that.
Mary (5-11, 3-9 NSIC) was led by Marquealis Edwards with 17 points.
Upper Iowa (11-7, 7-5) shot just 30 percent from the field (18 of 60). Jimmy Roth came off the bench to lead the Peacocks with 13 points.
