CEDAR RAPIDS - MJ Kamin left the field in the dust over two days at the Cedar Rapids Women's Golf City Amateur.
Kamin shot a personal best both days. Carding a 69 on Friday at Twin Pines Golf Course, then besting that with a 67 Saturday at Jones Golf Course.
Her two-round total of 136 beat the field by 15 strokes.
'It's a good accomplishment,” Kamin said. 'I wouldn't have been happy if I wasn't under par.”
The golfers had to endure three rain delays Saturday, pushing tee time back to noon. Kamin was anxious to get out on the course.
Kamin graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School two years ago with a golf career that included three All-Mississippi Valley Conference honors and a runner up finish at the 2014 Class 4A state championship.
She continued her golf career at Iowa State University and was recently selected to the Big 12 Academic All-Rookie team.
'I've seen her play before,” said Julie Buerman, who tied for third with a 156. 'Her putting was amazing the last two days, making really long putts like they were short.”
Everyone was able to finish Saturday just before the rain returned in the evening. Sierra Hargens finished second with a 151. Peggy Garrett tied with Buerman for third.
In the President's Flight, Amy Olberding finished first with a 175. Bonnie Jones was second with a 176 and Lisa Olberding was third with a 179.
Lora Winter shot a 169 to win the Senior Division. Jane Suiter was second with a 184 and Dorothy Peterson took third with a 185.
'Others should definitely play this tournament,” Kamin said. 'It's a fun tournament, and it's in town. It's good to come out and support the city courses.”
