McGrath claims first ASA Late Model Series victory

Griffin McGrath dominated the competition in his latest ASA Late Models North Division race, and captured his first checkered flag, winning the Milwaukee 100 July 17 at the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wis. It was his first victory in three seasons, running in tour events.

"This is huge," McGrath told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel after the race. "We're not running for points this year, but to compete with this great field ... it means a lot to us."

McGrath led the majority of the race, claiming the lead on Lap 33, and was out front for 68 total laps. McGrath, 22, from Cedar Rapids, gave up the lead once, getting passed on a restart. He needed just one lap to reclaim it and stayed ahead of the field the final 23 laps.

McGrath has raced at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in various divisions, including hobby stocks, modifieds and late models.
