MARION – Maquoketa had a sluggish start in its regular-season finale last night against Marion at Thomas Park.
But it didn't take the Cardinals long to get things straightened out. The state's No.-8 ranked team in Class 3A by The Associated Press found itself tied 7-7 with the Indians late in the first quarter before quarterback Chase Coakley took control.
He threw for 186 yards and a score in the first half as Maquoketa grabbed a 31-7 lead at the break. Neither team scored in the second half as the two teams combined for three turnovers.
