Maquoketa claims 3A-5 football title

Craig Johnson ran for 193 yards and three touchdowns as Maquoketa clinched the Class 3A District 5 title with a 28-14 victory over Western Dubuque on Friday night at Goodenow Field in Maquoketa.
The Cardinals improved to 7-1, 6-0 in District 5. Western Dubuque fell to 5-3 overall, 4-2 in district play, but clinched its first playoff berth since 2001.
Maquoketa quarterback Chase Coakley threw for 129 yards, including a 71-yard scoring strike to Jon Bopes.

WEST BRANCH 56, CARDINAL 0 - Sid Thompson, Cade Jones and Bo Bower scored two touchdowns apiece as the Bears (6-2, 5-1) rolled to a Class 1A District 6 win in Eldon.
Thompson opened the scoring with on 29-yard pass from Brandon Young and the route was on.
Jones rushed for 100 yards, Bwoer for 89.
The Bears' defense limited the Comets (1-7, 0-6) to 57 total yards, minus-3 on the ground.
West Branch plays North Cedar to close the season next Friday.

WEST DELAWARE 63, INDEPENDENCE 6 - Sam Lahr rushed for four touchdowns and Trey MacTaggart passed for four as the Hawks dominated the Class 3A-4 game in Manchester.
Lahr rushed for 139 yards on 16 carries, scoring on runs of 6, 5, 3 and 47 yards. MacTaggart completed 7 of 11 passes for 151 yards, hitting Tyler Morrison twice for TDs, once from 23 yards out and again from 13. MacTaggart also connected with Jack Curley from 52 yards and Jacyn Goebel from 25.
The Hawks (6-0, 7-1) led, 49-0, at halftime.

DYERSVILLE BECKMAN 42, MONTICELLO 20 - Connor Golden completed 7 of 16 passes for 109 yards and three touchdowns as the Blazers won in Monticello.
Golden hit Mitch Steger (28 yards), Ty Troutman (12) and Derek Hammann (47) to touchdowns. Hamman also scored on a 57-yard run and totaled 111 yards on nine carries. Ian Ross scored on an 85-yard blocked field goal return and Kirby Kendrick on a 13-yard run for Beckman.
Monticello got 104 rushing yards on 17 carries from Bill Gard, who scored on a 1-yard run. Logan McQuillen and Jacob Black also scored for the Panthers.

DECORAH 27, WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK 13 - Blake Moen and Josey Jewell scored a pair of touchdowns as the Vikings won at home, improving to 6-2 overall, 5-1 in 3A-4.
Moen scored on a 34-yard pass from Gayge Samuelson and added 33 rushing yards and another score. Jewell scored two rushing TDs and finished with 113 yards on eight carries.

IOWA VALLEY 54, DANVILLE 14 – John Gormey led the Tigers' (5-1, 6-2 A-6) offense with 258 rushing yards and give touchdowns on 21 carries at Marengo.
OELWEIN 32, CRESTWOOD 21 - Stephen Meyer threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Cody Rath in the first quarter then added a 33-yard touchdown pass to Sam Nehl in the second quarter to lead Oelwein to the win at Crestwood. Meyer had touchdowns runs 46 and 2 yards in the fourth quarter to help seal the win for Oelwein.
HLV 16, MONTEZUMA 13 - Tanner DeBrower scored two touchdowns in the second quarter, one rushing and the other a 3-yard pass from Cole Lahndorf, and Matt Merical added a safety with 2:22 to play for the Warrior's final points in a win at Victor.
