JACE HANNA, Cedar Rapids Prairie
An all-Mississippi Valley Conference first-team selection in football and basketball. He helped lead the Hawks to a remarkable turnaround in football, quarterbacking them to an 8-4 mark and a berth in the Class 4A state quarterfinals (its most successful postseason run since 1981) after a 2-7 season in 2012. Passed for 2,555 yards and 28 touchdowns. In basketball, he led the Hawks in scoring at 13.2 points per game, and also led the team in rebounds (98), assists (70) and steals (32). Will play basketball at the University of Upper Iowa.
JOSEY JEWELL, Decorah
A four-sport athlete and the Gazette/KCRG
football player of the year. Jewell led the Vikings to the Class 3A state championship, rushing for 1,314 yards and 21 touchdowns while leading the defense with 100 tackles (11 for loss) and collecting two fumble recoveries and an interception. Decorah was a state runner-up in baseball last year, and Jewell led the Vikings in hitting (.412), runs (40) and RBIs (36) while posting a 3-1 record and 1.88 ERA on the mound. Averaged 4.8 points per game and a grabbed a team-high 103 rebounds in basketball, and was a state placewinner in the discus. Will play football at the University of Iowa.
CADE JONES, West Branch
Earned consecutive Class 1A state wrestling
championships at 195 pounds, amassing a 40-6 record as a junior and 44-1 as a senior. In football, he was the focal point as the Bears maintained their level of excellence. In three years, he rushed 494 times for 4,420 yards and 66 touchdowns as his team compiled a 29-7 record. The Bears were state semifinalists in 2010 and 2011. He rushed for 1,769 yards and 27 touchdowns as a junior, 1,867 yards and 29 TDs as a senior. Will play football at Grand View University.
JEREMY MORGAN, Iowa City West
The leader of a budding basketball dynasty, Morgan led the way as the Trojans assembled back-to-back Class 4A state championships, compiling a 52-0 record the last two seasons. Earned Gazette/KCRG boys'
basketball player of the year honors after averaging 12.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Netted 14.8 points and 4.1 boards per contest as a junior. An explosive receiver, Morgan caught 47 passes for 785 yards and 10 touchdowns as West went 10-1 in football and won a divisional title. A multiple-event state qualifier in track, he was a relay placewinner. Will play basketball at the University of Northern Iowa.
REGGIE SCHULTE, Cedar Rapids Xavier
Engineered Xavier's run to the Class 4A state football championship game, setting 18 school records in the process. Among them are touchdown passes in a game (5), season (37) and career (49), and passing yards in a season (2,501) and career (4,002). The top-rated 4A passer with a 219.0 rating, he was the Gazette/KCRG
offensive player of the year. A four-year, four-sport athlete, he was a team captain in basketball (in which he averaged 3.0 points per game as a senior) and participated in baseball and track. Will play football at the University of Northern Iowa.
