Apr. 10, 2012 11:51 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS -- Cedar Rapids Washington head football and baseball coach Tony Lombardi will retain his coaching and teaching jobs at the school after the completion of an investigation by the Cedar Rapids Community School District into allegations made against him, it has been learned.Parents filed formal complaints against Lombardi, accusing him of bullying and verbal abuse against players, students and others at Washington. After a couple of mothers of students at the school went on KCRG-TV9 last week to complain about Lombardi, several of his football players gave the media unsolicited statements of support for him.Lombardi has been head football coach for six seasons and will begin his first season as baseball coach this summer. An assistant boys' track and field coach, he refused to speak to a Gazette reporter during a track meet Tuesday night at Linn-Mar and did not immediately respond to a follow-up voice message seeking comment left by another Gazette reporter late Tuesday night.A voice message left for Washington Principal Ralph Plagman also was not immediately returned Tuesday night.
