Logic, Stokes invited to WNBA Draft
Jeff Linder Apr. 13, 2015 5:19 pm
University of Iowa All-American Samantha Logic and Marion native Kiah Stokes are two of 12 prospective draftees invited to attend Thursday's WNBA Draft in person.
The WNBA announced the invitation-only guest list Monday afternoon.
ESPN2 will cover the first round live at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., at 6 p.m. (Iowa time). The second and third rounds will air on ESPN3.
Others invited to the draft are Jewell Loyd of Notre Dame, Brittany Boyd and Reshanda Gray of California, Brittany Hrynko of DePaul, Dearica Hamby of Wake Forest, Aleighsa Welsh of South Carolina, Isabelle Harrison of Tennessee, Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis of Connecticut, Elizabeth Williams of Duke, and Amanda Zahui B. of Minnesota.
A 5-foot-9 guard, Logic is the only player in NCAA history to accumulate at least 1,500 career points, 900 rebounds, 800 assists, and 200 steals. She is the fourth consensus All-American in Iowa women's basketball history, following Michelle Edwards, Franthea Price and Toni Foster.
She is sure to be the 12th Hawkeye in program history to be drafted by the WNBA, the first since Kachine Alexander in 2011.
Stokes, a former McDonald's all-American and Miss Iowa Basketball in 2011 at Linn-Mar, set Connecticut's single-season record for blocked shots as the Huskies captured their third consecutive NCAA championship. The 6-foot-4 post ranked third all-time at UConn for blocks in a career. She averaged 4.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this season.
