Tait Simpson scored two first-half touchdowns to help propel Lisbon to an 18-8 prep football victory over West Branch last night in Lisbon.
The Class A fourth-ranked Lions set the tone early when Simpson took the opening kickoff 48 yards to the West Branch 36 and, five plays later, scattered around right end for 10 yards and the touchdown.
After a West Branch fumble on their first possession, the Lions marched 46 yards capped by Simpson's nine-yard TD run. The Lions added a safety late in the second quarter to take an 18-0 lead into halftime.
"This is a big win for us," Simpson said. "West Branch is a good team, We just hope to build off this momentum."
The Class 1A third-ranked Bears marched down the field on their opening drive of the second half. After a nine-play 56-yard drive, Cade Jones barreled over the right side into the end zone, making the score 18-8 after a two-point conversion.
NORTH LINN 41, EAST BUCHANAN 6 - Brendan Schott rushed for 76 yards on 12 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead North Linn to the win at Winthrop.
Jake Oswald completed 6 of 13 passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns for North Linn. Justin Supple had two catches for 83 yards, while Cole Bamrick had a 37-yard touchdown run the Lynx (1-1). Evan Franck threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Beyer for East Buchanan.
ALBURNETT 35, IOWA VALLEY 13 - Mitch Harger rushed for 309 yards on 24 carries and scored five touchdowns for the Pirates.
Defensively, Harger recorded 9 tackles and one interception in a non-district game at home.
DYERSVILLE BECKMAN 41, CENTER POINT-URBANA 7 – Conner Golden threw for five touchdowns on 12 of 24 passing for 204 yards to lead the Blazers in Center Point.
Ty Troutman was the recipient of two TD passes with 7-yard and 25-yard catches. The Blazers, ranked second in 2A, improve to 2-0 with the win at Center Point.
