Ron Hughes sits in the press box during games, sketching formations and scribbling notes on a pad of paper for later adjustments. Through his headset he shares his insights, tempered by 41 seasons of coaching experience, with the Iowa City Regina staff.
Over time, Hughes and others have seen an increase in the number of high school football coaches, and as a result, an elevated state of the game. More coaches, and volunteers, allow for more one-on-one instruction, and more complex schemes formerly not seen until the college level.
