IOWA CITY — Carly Mohns will miss a significant amount of time, if not the remainder of the season, due to an injury to her left knee.
Iowa women's basketball coach Lisa Bluder disclosed that Mohns suffered a torn meniscus during practice Monday. She underwent surgery Thursday morning.
'We don't know the extent yet,' Bluder said during her press conference Thursday. 'It could be one month, it could be four months.'
A 6-foot-1 sophomore from Brodhead, Wis., Mohns had developed into a valuable frontcourt reserve. She played in nine of the Hawkeyes' first 10 games, averaging 3.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. She had played 15 minutes or more in each of the last five games, scoring a career-high 11 points in the Hawkeyes' win over Houston on Nov. 28.
'It's tough, because Carly brings a lot of energy,' said junior co-captain Ally Disterhoft. 'She's a workhorse, strong and aggressive. People are going to have to step up and be that much more aggressive.'
Bluder said that Mohns' absence probably will mean more minutes for Claire Till and Hannah Stewart.
No. 24 Iowa (8-2) hosts Bradley (4-4) at 5 p.m. Saturday.
