Kirkwood men’s basketball advances to national quarterfinals

DANVILLE, Ill. - The Kirkwood men's basketball team opened the NJCAA D2 Tournament with an 86-61 victory over Frederick (Md.) Tuesday.
The Eagles dominated in the second half, outscoring Frederick 51-24.
Five Eagles scored in double figures, including three reserves. Starter Nick Richards and Josh Meier led the way with 13 points apiece. Cristen Wilson had 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench, while fellow reserve Byron Harp contributed 10. Da'Rion King finished with 10 points and six boards.
Josiah Jones had a game-high 18 points off the Frederick bench.
Kirkwood drained 11 of 17 3-point attempts while Frederick connected on just 3 of 16.
Kirkwood will play Louisburg (N.C.) at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
