Key 3-pointer pushes Coe over Wartburg: Iowa small college women’s basketball roundup

A 3-point basket from Mickey Hansche with 1:08 to play gave Coe a 61-56 lead, and the Kohawks held on for a 61-59 victory over Wartburg in women's basketball Wednesday night at Eby Fieldhouse in Cedar Rapids.
Megan Hayes and Aleena Hobbs scored 16 points apiece for Coe (11-5, 4-1 Iowa Conference).
Bobbie Burrows scored 20 points for Wartburg (10-6, 1-4).
KIRKWOOD 74, ELLSWORTH 39
- No. 4 Kirkwood was up 41-28 at halftime in Iowa Falls, outscored Ellsworth 18-2 to start the second half and cruised to Coach Kim Muhl's 750th victory in his 26th season coaching the Eagles.
Muhl typically downplayed the milestone achievement.
'I guess that's what they're saying,” he said about hitting 750 win against only 139 losses. 'It goes by pretty dang fast.”
This Eagles team is 16-4 after a 4-4 start.
Kirsten Larson had 13 points, Anna Martinsen 12 points and eight rebounds.
MOUNT MERCY 71, ST. AMBROSE 54
- Paige Last scored 24 points, and Makenzie Zeitler put together a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds in the Midwest Collegiate Conference victory at Hennessey Rec Center.
Last made 6 of 10 3-point shots. Christa Oldham and Alisa Weitland added 10 points apiece for the Mustangs (11-11, 2-2), who led 34-28 at halftime.
CORNELL 72, GRINNELL 69
- Rikki Mulloy gave the Rams the lead at 70-69 with a jump shot at the 1:01 mark, then sealed it on a layup with 17 seconds left in the Midwest Conference game at Mount Vernon.
The Rams trailed 69-64 with 2:52 to play, then held Grinnell (6-9, 4-6) scoreless from there.
Taylor Dicus had another double-double for the Rams (9-7, 7-4) with 28 points and 12 rebounds. She made 9 of 11 shots and 10 of 11 free throws. Mulloy and Sarah Hansen scored 11 points apiece.
SIMPSON 88, LUTHER 81 (ot)
- Simpson's Brittany Hedrick sent it to overtime with a 3-pointer at the buzzer in Indianola, and the Storm handed No. 24 Luther its first Iowa Conference loss of the season.
Kylie Romeo scored 19 points for Luther (14-2, 4-1), and Moran Lonning added 13.
Maddie Bosworth scored 25 for Simpson (13-3, 3-2).
