BURLINGTON - One floundering Midwest League team felt a little better after its game Thursday night. That team wasn't the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
The Burlington Bees ended a seven-game losing streak and extended the Kernels' to six with a 6-2 win at Community Field. The teams play against Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.
An RBI double from newcomer Carlos Avila tied the game for the Kernels (19-21) in the fourth inning, but that would be their final hit. Burlington scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good.
Starting pitcher Felix Jorge's struggles continue, as he gave up nine hits, walks four and allowed five runs (four earned) in 4 1/3 inninbs. Burlington starting pitcher Harrison Cooney and reliever Alfonso Alcantara combined on a four-hitter, with Alcantara getting the victory with five innings of hitless ball out of the bullpen.
