Kennedy's Christensen reaffirms Nebraska commit

That guy with the big plastic ear of corn on his head. Austin Christensen still wants to be that guy.Well, the Cedar Rapids Kennedy junior star doesn't necessarily want to be a "corn head." But he does want to wear the big Cornhusker 'N' for his collegiate baseball career.Even though the school is now a Big Ten Conference member instead of Big 12."I don't really know. A little angry, a little bit (of a letdown)," Christensen said, when asked what he thought when the school announced it had jumped leagues last month. "But I've grown up watching the Big Ten in a ton of sports, so I think it'll be pretty fun, actually. Even though the baseball might not be as good."There's the rub. Instead of playing national powers every season like Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M, Christensen and his older brother, Chad, will be freezing their helmets off playing March games at Northwestern and Iowa. That's a big difference in level of competition. Not to mention weather."We've talked about it. I'm not going to lie," Christensen said. "But it's still where I want to go. I still want to go play for the University of Nebraska and represent that school. Coach (Mike) Anderson is a great coach and I'd love to play for him."Austin Christensen is a left-handed hitting right fielder/first baseman/pitcher hitting .455 and who is closing in on Kennedy's career record for home runs. Chad Christensen, who prepped at Cedar Rapids Washington, hit .262 in his freshman season as Nebraska's regular shortstop.Chad Christensen is playing in a collegiate summer league in California."I think he feels about the same as I do," Austin said. "He's a little upset because he got to play in the Big 12 this year and that was a blast. Playing all those big (baseball) schools. But I think he's going to stay there. It's not going to affect him too much."
