Next Monday’s Zach Johnson Foundation Classic has added one of pro golf’s biggest names.
Justin Thomas, winner of two major tournaments and 15 PGA Tour events, is among the pros participating in Monday’s edition of the annual fundraiser at Elmcrest Country Club for the Kids on Course program.
Thomas joins a host of Tour players, including World Golf Hall of Fame member Davis Love III.
Thomas, 30, is one of four players to win 14 Tour events before turning 28, along with Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller and Tiger Woods. He won the PGA Championship in 2017 and 2022.
He is one of many contenders for the six U.S. Ryder Cup team’s captain’s picks, and this year’s captain happens to be Johnson. Thomas has a 6-2-1 record over his two Ryder Cup appearances. The Ryder Cup is Sept. 29-Oct. 1 in Rome.
Like many of the pros committed to the ZJFC, Thomas will be coming to Cedar Rapids from this weekend’s 3M Classic in suburban Minneapolis.
Thomas has led the Tour in money winnings in three different years. He has just two Top Tens this season and has dropped to No. 24 in the world. He was ranked No. 1 for four weeks in 2018.
The ZJFC is free to the public. Gates open Monday at 7:30 a.m., with a golf clinic at 8:15 and play starting an hour after that.
