Jorgensen headlines '14 Hall

DES MOINES -- Few players could stuff a stat sheet like Jennifer Jorgensen.
A 2008 graduate of Southeast Webster, Jorgensen ranks in the top 10 all-time statewide in three major categories -- points (second, 2,708), rebounds (eighth, 1,184) and assists (sixth, 621).Jorgensen headlines a IGHSAU girls' basketball hall-of-fame class that will be inducted Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena.
Erin Richards (Mason City, 1998) and Jacqui Kalin (Sioux City North, 2007) also will be inducted. The 1964 honor team from West Monona also will be honored during halftime of the Class 4A championship game.
Already a member of the track and field hall of fame, Jorgensen began her collegiate career at Pacific, then came back to Iowa to finish at Grand View.
Richards finished with 1,826 points and 735 rebounds, and is third all-time in Iowa in career free-throw shooting (88.0 percent). She played at Drake.
Kalin had a standout career at UNI, where she is the career leader in points, assists, 3-pointers, free throws, free throw percentage and games played. She overcame two knee injuries.
The '64 West Monona team went undefeated in the school's second year of reorganization, rallying from a 10-point deficit in the final 4 1/2 minutes to beat South Hamilton in the final.
COOLEY CASH
Emily McDonald of MOC-Floyd Valley is the recipient of the E. Wayne Cooley Scholarship Award.McDonald was selected from 77 applicants and earns $15,000 over four years as she attends Central College.
She is a two-time all-state performer in volleyball, helping the Dutch to two state titles. She starts for the girls' basketball team and is an all-state pitcher. She'll be honored Saturday.
OTHER AWARDS
*Kayla Armstrong of Cedar Rapids Xavier is the recipient of the Jack North Basketball Award. Armstrong was the all-tournament captain as the Class 4A team after leading the Saints to the championship. Her basket with 8 seconds left beat Harlan in the final. Armstrong is playing soccer at Drake.
*Gene Rasmussen, coach at IKM-Manning, is the recipient of the Golden Plaque of Distinction. Rasmussen has guided seven teams to the state tournament in his 15 years, including championships in 2006 and 2009.
* Chuck Schoffner is the 14th recipient of the Jack North Award. Schoffner of Ankeny, covered high school sports for 34 years for United Press International and the Associated Press. Upon retirement, he has chaired hall-of-fame juries in volleyball, basketball, track and softball since 2007.
