We've all hit the send button inadvertently.
Most of us haven't done it during one of the state's most high-profile events of the year with 8,000-plus Twitter followers, though.
Seconds after Iowa suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of Michigan State in the Big Ten title game, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst's account tweeted her congratulations on the "big win."
The tweet was deleted a few minutes later.
Ernst then apologized, attributing the tweet to a "staff error."
Sorry for staff error. December 6, 2015

Monday, Ernst clarified even further, tweeting she'll "take over the tweeting," and signing off with her initials.
My staff was too eager for an IA December 7, 2015
My staff was too eager for an IA @HawkeyeFootball win. We'll show our support during the @RoseBowlGame but I'll take over the tweeting! -JKE
