Jason Day added to Zach Johnson Foundation Classic

Jun. 29, 2015 6:12 pm
Next Monday's Zach Johnson Foundation Classic will have the deepest and most-decorated field in its 5-year history.
Jason Day, the 8th-ranked player in the World Golf Rankings, is among those who have been added to the field. He joins No. 2 Jordan Spieth, the winner of this year's Masters and U.S. Open.
Day seemed to gain the admiration of a lot of fans when he battled vertigo for much of this month's U.S. Open and still was in contention to win until late in the final round. He finished tied for ninth.
Kevin Kisner (tied for 12th) and PGA Tour rookie Tony Finau (tied for 14th) also had strong showings at the Open. They, too, will participate in the ZJFC, which tees off Monday morning at Elmcrest Country Club. Free tickets are available at Cedar Rapids-Marion Hy-Vee grocery stores and drug stores.
Kisner lost in a playoff to Rickie Fowler at May's The Players Championship. Finau has had two Top Ten finishes on the PGA Tour within the last month.
Among other pros announced as attending are:
l
Stewart Cink, the 2009 British Open champion.
l
Kenny Perry, winner of 14 PGA Tour events and seven more on the Champions Tour. Like Johnson and Spieth, Perry is a former winner of the John Deere Classic.
l
PGA Tour pros Michael Thompson, Luke Guthrie and Scott Langley, and LPGA pro Mallory Blackwelder.
Previously announced attendees included 2013 PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner and 2014 FedExCup champion Billy Horschel, as well as Champions Tour stalwart Jay Haas.
Former University of Iowa athletes Dallas Clark, Chuck Long and Greg Brunner, and current Hawkeye broadcasters Gary Dolphin, Bob Hansen and Ed Podolak also will play in the event.
Also on hand will be Chris Soules, of 'The Bachelor” fame.
The dollars raised support Kids on Course, a pilot program at Grant, Harrison and Van Buren Elementary Schools to help provide creative and inventive opportunities to students.
