AMES — Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell has continued to officially pluck familiar faces from his old stomping groups.
The Cyclones announced the hiring of Tyson Veidt as linebackers coach. He spent the last two seasons as linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator under Campbell at Toledo.
'Tyson is a tireless recruiter and a great developer of relationships,' Campbell said in a release. 'He did a great job coaching our linebackers at Toledo and will do the same here at Iowa State.'
Before Veidt guided the Rockets linebackers, he was the head coach at Bluffton University from 2008-13 and took the 1-9 team from 2007 to 6-4 in 2012.
'I am super excited to be a part of the Cyclone family with Coach Campbell,' Veidt said in the release. 'You certainly win with people, and Coach Campbell knows the importance of that. My family and I appreciate the opportunity and are ecstatic to get everyone to Ames.'
Veidt joins Lou Ayeni (running backs), Tom Manning (offensive line), D.K. McDonald (cornerbacks), Alex Golesh (tight ends/recruiting coordinator), John Kuceyeski (Director of Scouting) and Mitchell Moore (Director of High School Relations) on Campbell's staff.
UT strength and conditioning coach Rudy Wade is expected to join the ISU staff as well.
Toledo offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jason Candle was reported to be in Ames the last two days to serve in the same role with Iowa State. But according to Football Scoop and Sports Illustrated, he is now expected to be named the Rockets head coach in a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
