ISU notes: Injury report, Lynn suspended, kicking competition
Oct. 26, 2015 4:39 pm
In the midst of making a change at offensive coordinator, Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads shed some light on the injuries plaguing Allen Lazard and Kamari Cotton-Moya.
Cotton-Moya went down with a 'serious hamstring injury” on the last drill of last Wednesday's practice that could keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season.
'If it can be done, it will get done by our medical staff and his attempts to take in all the treatment and do what he can, but it will be a stretch we'll see him the remainder of the season,” Rhoads said.
Lazard missed Saturday's game at Baylor with a rotator cuff injury, but Rhoads is hopeful he will be back soon.
'We actually went into Thursday and Friday thinking he was going to wake up one of those mornings and it was going to release and he was going to feel better,” Rhoads said. 'It never got to that point.”
Rhoads added Lazard has 'a ways to go,” but thinks there is a chance he could play this Saturday against Texas.
Defensive linemen Trent Taylor, Jhaustin Thomas and Gabe Luna have all been dealing with ankle injuries, but Rhoads is hopeful Thomas and Tayor will be ready to play Saturday. Luna's status remains up in the air as he has fluid drained from his injury to relieve pain. Bobby Leath suffered a concussion last week, but is expected to be ready to play this weekend.
Defensive back Ken Lynn was suspended for the remainder of the season for an unspecified violation of Big 12 rules, Rhoads said.
Red-shirt freshman kicker Chris Francis was elevated to the top of the depth chart Monday ahead of junior Cole Netten and each will get a chance to kick with the first team. A decision is expected closer to Wednesday.
