Iowa women's basketball, baseball broadcaster Brent Balbinot leaving for Toledo

IOWA CITY — After 12 years as the voice of the University of Iowa women's basketball team, Brent Balbinot is moving on.

Balbinot has been selected as the new radio play-by-play announced of the University of Toledo football and men's basketball programs, it was announced Friday.

'I can't begin to say how tough a decision this was,' Balbinot said. 'It was the toughest professional decision I've ever had to make. Toledo is a tremendous institution with tremendous facilities.

'I wasn't going to take that job sight unseen, but after visiting there, my wife and I decided that we could see ourselves there.'

Balbinot, 47, also served as play-by-play voice for Hawkeyes' baseball team and has been a member of the sports media in Iowa since 1993.
