AMES - Iowa State Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard suffered a heart attack while watching his daughters compete in the girls' state indoor track and field meet Monday afternoon at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
Pollard was taken by ambulance to Allen Hospital in Waterloo, where he spent Monday night for observation and treatment.
Tuesday afternoon, ISU announced Pollard will be transferred to Des Moines Methodist Hospital for continuing care and treatment.
Pollard will have open heart surgery later in the week in Des Moines.
'It has been overwhelming to have received so many messages of support,” Pollard said. 'Our family is so appreciative of the uplifting and encouraging thoughts and prayers.”
Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.
Iowa State President Steven Leath has appointed Senior Associate Athletics Director David Harris the acting AD while Pollard recuperates.
