Shooting problems plagued Iowa State early in the game Saturday, and the Cyclones lost to Oklahoma State, 67-58, in the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 women's basketball tournament at Dallas.
Iowa State shot just 27.6 percent from the field in the opening half while Oklahoma State was shooting at a 55.6-percent clip. That resulted in a 34-21 Oklahoma State lead at the break.
The Cyclones didn't improve all that much in the second half, shooting 35.3 percent from the field to make it 31.7 percent in the game.
Nikki Moody led Iowa State scorers with 17 points but made just 5 of 24 shots, including 3 of 12 from beyond the arc. Brynn Williamson - who bucked the trend by making 5 of 8 shots - and Seanna Johnson added 16 points apiece for the Cyclones. Williamson and Johnson had double-doubles with Williams getting 11 rebounds and Johnson 12.
Roshunda Johnson scored 20 points and Brittney Martin added 17 for fourth-seeded Oklahoma State (20-10).
Iowa State scored first in the second half, but the Cowgirls then went on a 9-0 run to make it 43-23.
The Cyclones whittled the deficit to 11 points, then went on a 8-0 run to make it 59-56 Oklahoma State on a Moody 3-pointer with 1:32 to go.
But Oklahoma State made enough free throws down the stretch to keep the Cyclones at Bay.
The Cyclones (18-10) now await word on their postseason future.
