Turning point: Iowa State’s clutch late drive
This one’s easy.
Down two points, Iowa State took over possession at its 22-yard line with 34 seconds left and no timeouts.
Quarterback Rocco Becht threw a 10-yard completion on an out pattern to Jaylin Noel to move the football to the 32. On the next play, Noel ran a wheel route down the right sideline.
Becht threw a perfect pass between two Iowa defensive backs to Noel for a 30-yard gain to the Iowa 38. Even better, he got out of bounds with 24 seconds left.
Then it was a 2-yard completion to tight end Benjamin Brahmer. With the clock running, Iowa State was able to get to the line of scrimmage, with Becht spiking the ball with nine seconds left.
Redshirt freshman kicker Kyle Konrardy (a Dubuque Senior grad) then came on and nailed a 54-yard field goal with six seconds left to win the game. Konrardy also made a 46-yard field goal earlier in the fourth quarter, after missing a 41-yarder at the end of the first half.
