Iowa State tackle Gannon leaves program
Sep. 4, 2014 2:24 pm
AMES - The shake-up on the offensive line will continue for Iowa State heading into its game Saturday against Kansas State.
Starting right tackle Jacob Gannon has left the ISU football team for 'personal reasons” an ISU spokesman confirmed Thursday.
Gannon, a fifth-year senior, leaves the team after the Cyclones lost backup center Ben Loth at the beginning of fall camp to a career-ending knee injury. Iowa State also suffered the loss of center Tom Farniok against North Dakota State with an MCL strain, but Coach Paul Rhoads believes he will play Saturday.
A 6-foot-7, 300-pound former Iowa City West player, Gannon started 13 games in his career for the Cyclones. He also ranked fourth among all players on the ISU roster in games played with 36.
The departure of Gannon likely means red-shirt freshman Jake Campos will be elevated to a starting role at the right tackle position. Campos, at 6-foot-8, 291 pounds, was a four-star recruit for the Cyclones from West Des Moines Valley.
