Iowa State signs wide receiver Matt Eaton, ESPN No. 31 JUCO

AMES — The Iowa State football team announced the signing of JUCO wide receiver Matt Eaton on Wednesday evening, bolstering its receiving core with even more size.
Eaton, 6-foot-4 and 210-pounds, played last season at Pearl River Community College where had 37 receptions for 392 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed once on the season for an 18-yard score. Eaton also held offers from West Virginia and Toledo and will have two years to play with the Cyclones.
ESPN rated Eaton a four-star recruit while Scout and 247Sports had him as a three-star. He was No. 31 overall and the No. 4 wide receiver according to ESPNJC50, and the 97th-best overall JUCO and ninth wide receiver according to 247Sports.
'Matt is one of the top playmakers in the country,' Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said in a statement. 'He's big, which will add to the size we already have on the outside at wide receiver. He's a guy that has great speed, but also with the ability to run elite routes. We are really excited about what Matt brings to the table.'
Prior to his season at Pearl River, Eaton spent two seasons at Temple. The Pascagoula, Miss., native played in four games in 2014 for the Owls and earned one start before getting sidelined with an injury and receiving a medical redshirt. He played in two games in 2015 and caught one pass for 11 yards.
Eaton will join Allen Lazard (6-5, 223) and Hakeem Butler (6-6, 210) as the biggest wide receivers on Iowa State's roster. Chase Allen, who will be a redshirt freshman, is slotted at tight end at 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds.
