AMES - In addition to the three JUCO players the Iowa State football team signed last month, another piece is joining the fold this spring.
Richard Bowens III, a 6-foot-1 and 175-pound freshman defensive back, signed with the Cyclones during the weekend and enrolled in classes for the spring semester. The West Bloomfield, Mich. (St. Mary's) native committed to Iowa State on April 13 last year.
Bowens III is a consensus three-star recruit by 247Sports, ESPN, Scout and Rivals and is rated as the third-best cornerback in Michigan. He's a top-50 cornerback according to Scout (No. 46) and Rivals (No. 49) and helped his team to three-straight D3 state titles.
'Richard is a winner,” Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said in a statement. 'His team won the state championship and he is a state champion 300-meter hurdler. He's got great speed and length at the corner position. He knows how to win and be successful. We are excited to get him in at mid-year and get him some quality reps.”
