Iowa State moved up one spot to No. 2 in this week’s Associated Press men’s basketball rankings.
It is the highest the Cyclones have ever been ranked. They were No. 3 for a week in 1957, and were third in the previous five AP polls.
Tennessee lost 73-43 at Florida last week to fall from the No. 1 spot, which was claimed by former No. 2 Auburn. Iowa State (14-1) rallied from 13 points down last Saturday for an 85-84 overtime win at Texas Tech. It was the Cyclones’ 11th-straight victory.
Auburn received 60 of the 62 first-place votes. No. 3 Duke and No. 5 Florida got one apiece.
Iowa State’s lone loss was 83-81 to Auburn last Nov. 25 in the Maui Invitational.
The Cyclones are tied for the Big 12 lead at 4-0 with Arizona and Houston. They host No. 9 Kansas Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Iowa State also is ranked No. 2 in the USA TODAY coaches’ poll, with five of the 31 first-place votes.
