AMES — Iowa State fans stormed the field after Saturday's 14-7 win over No. 4 TCU for the first time since 2011 when the Cyclones stunned No. 2 Oklahoma State at Jack Trice Stadium.
Iowa State defensive end J.D. Waggoner didn't know Iowa State existed until 2011 when the upset occured. And he was mad about it. He was rooting for Oklahoma State.
'I was like, 'Who is Iowa State?'' Waggoner said. 'I was mad because that's where my sister went and that's her alma mater, so I was like, 'What is going on, they're out of the national championship.''
He understands the Iowa State fandom now.
'It's mind boggling,' Waggoner said of Iowa State's fandom. 'It's something Iowa State fans deserve. A lot of those guys have been fans for years. To have a win like this, is awesome for them.'
Iowa State fans storming the field is something coach Matt Campbell envisioned when he arrived at Iowa State.

'You sat there before the game and I remember (hosting) our first official visit here,' Campbell said. 'We're sitting at midfield and it was Jatairis Grant and some other guys here and I remember looking at the jumbotron maybe a week into being here and I said, 'Man, this place gives you chills.'
'To be able to see that environment enjoyed today, what they've sacrificed so greatly for, too. That's rewarding. You're humble and grateful for their support. They were awesome today, they picked us up when we needed it – they're a part of it. That's what makes Iowa State special. It's not about any one of us, it's about all of us.'
KEMPT KEEPS COMPOSURE
Ever since Kyle Kempt took over as the starting quarterback, coaches raved about his poise and composure, and he needed it Saturday.
He threw an interception and took some big hits when TCU blitzed.
Even still, he finished the game with 21 completions on 35 attempts, 202 yards and two touchdowns.
'He took some shots early on and really hung in there,' Campbell said. 'A couple of plays that he made, especially that touchdown pass to Hakeem, he takes a shot and he just stayed the course. He'd tell you it wasn't his best day, but I think his poise, who he is allows him to stay in the moment and I think it really allows our team to stay in the moment.'
CELEBRATION?
Iowa State won maybe the biggest game in its history on Saturday. What's Campbell going to do to celebrate?
'We have recruits in, so we're going to go recruit some of those guys and keep building the program,' Campbell said. 'And then you get around your wife and kids, so I'm excited to be around them. And then we have the opportunity to get ready for West Virginia. It's a short mindset. I'll grade the film tonight and get ready to rock and roll tomorrow morning.'
