Iowa State announces changes to 2017 football schedule

AMES — The Iowa State athletics department announced a few changes to the 2017 football schedule Thursday.
Iowa State's one non-conference road trip, at Akron, was originally slated for Sept. 23, but has been moved up a week to Sept. 16. The Cyclones' Big 12 opener, at home against Texas, has been moved to Thursday, Sept. 28 from Saturday, Sept. 30.
The movement of both games was made at the request of ESPN and the Big 12 Conference. Kickoff times and broadcast details are to be released at a later date, per the release.
The game against the Longhorns will mark the second-straight season Iowa State will play on a Thursday — the Cyclones hosted Oklahoma last season in Coach Matt Campbell's first year with the program.
Iowa State also announced the season opener against Northern Iowa has been solidified as a Saturday, Sept. 2 kickoff, although a start time has not been set.
