EVANSTON, Ill. — Iowa wrestling made history Sunday in beating Northwestern 54-0 at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The margin of victory is the largest against a Big Ten opponent in school history. The previous mark was 53-0 against Illinois in 1992.
'It was more than going out and scoring points,' Iowa Coach Tom Brands said. 'This was about wrestling opponents that we could have overlooked and we didn't.'
Iowa (10-0, 4-0 Big Ten) got pins from Thomas Gilman, Cory Clark, Edwin Cooper Jr., Sammy Brooks and Sam Stoll. They also got two forfeits from Northwestern (1-6, 0-2).
