What to know: Iowa will try to avoid its first 4-game losing streak since 2018. It is winless on the road in Big Ten play.
The Hawkeyes are coming off home losses to ranked teams Purdue (90-81) and Wisconsin last week. They had a season-low for points in their 74-63 defeat to Wisconsin last Saturday. They were tied at halftime against Purdue and led Wisconsin by two points at the break.
Iowa has been outrebounded in its last seven games and has shot fewer free throws than its opponent in the last five.
The Hawkeyes have won their last four games against Rutgers, all by at least nine points.
Rutgers is one of just seven schools in the nation to have at least five freshmen currently averaging seven minutes or more per game. Its five freshmen average 48.3 points per team game, only behind Duke nationally.
Rutgers is led by wing Ace Bailey (19.4 points per game) and guard Dylan Harper (19.1). Another freshman, forward Dylan Grant, had a career-high 19 points in the Scarlet Knights’ 90-81 loss at Maryland Sunday.
Freshman Lathan Sommerville of Peoria, Ill., averages 7.4 points. The 6-foot-10 center is the son of Marcellus Sommerville, who played at Iowa in the 2001-2002 season before transferring to Bradley.
The Scarlet Knights haven’t shot better than 41.3 percent in their last three games.
This will be Rutgers’ 78th-straight home sellout.
Iowa has failed to cover the spread in its last seven games.
Rob Brooks will do the play-by-play for a second-straight game on the Hawkeye Radio Network. Gary Dolphin is recovering from surgery to a quad muscle, but hopes to be back on the job next week.
