Iowa hoops notes: Point guard, Jok situation, Chris Street Award
Apr. 14, 2016 9:08 pm
IOWA CITY — Iowa's men's basketball team has little experience returning at point guard, but Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery is confident in the two players he has at that position.
Current freshman Christian Williams and incoming freshman Jordan Bohannon appear the most likely candidates to play the point next year. They will vie to replace four-year starter Mike Gesell as well as part-time point guard and starter Anthony Clemmons.
'We've got other players who can dribble the basketball, but in terms of point guards, those are the two guys,' McCaffery said.
Williams, who stands 6-foot-6, played sparingly until late in the season. He finished with six assists and six turnovers while averaging 1.4 points a game. One third of his minutes came in the final five games, when he scored 16 of his 27 points.
Bohannon (6-1) was voted the state's Mr. Basketball after averaging 25.8 points a game at Linn-Mar.

Iowa has one available scholarship and could use it on a point guard to compete with Williams and Bohannon.
JOK UPDATE
Iowa junior guard Peter Jok continues on his quest toward the NBA, and he still has more than five weeks before he needs to make a final decision.
Jok, a 6-6 shooting guard, averaged 16.1 points a game last year and earned second-team all-Big Ten honors. The NBA scouting combine — which is invitation only — takes place May 11-15. Players have until May 25 to withdraw from draft consideration and re-enter school, provided they did not sign with an agent.
'He's going through the process,' McCaffery said. 'It's foreign territory for everybody. There's a lot of guys in that same position. So he'll get it figured out. Will he get invited to the combine? That would be a question. Will he get NBA workout opportunities? When those decisions are determined, that will make it a little more clear for him in terms of his path.'
CHRIS STREET AWARD
Iowa's four scholarship seniors Adam Woodbury, Mike Gesell, Anthony Clemmons and Jarrod Uthoff were honored as the latest Chris Street Award winners at the team's annual banquet. Street was killed in a car accident in 1993, and the award goes to the player who best exemplifies Street's spirit, intensity and enthusiasm.
The players totaled 89 victories over their careers, the third-most for any senior class.
