Iowa’s Trenton Wallace named Big Ten Pitcher of the Year
Outfielder Ben Norman also named to conference’s first team

IOWA CITY — University of Iowa redshirt junior Trenton Wallace has been named the Big Ten Conference’s Pitcher of the Year, it was announced Sunday.
A Davenport Assumption grad, the left-hander went 7-1 in the regular season with a 2.34 earned run average in 13 starts. He led the Big Ten with 106 strikeouts.
Wallace is the first Hawkeye to win Pitcher of the Year honors.
Iowa senior outfielder Ben Norman joined Wallace on the All-Big Ten first team. Norman, from Des Moines Roosevelt, led his team in batting average, runs, home runs, RBIs, hits and steals.
Second baseman Izaya Fullard, a former Iowa City West prep and Kirkwood Community College player, was named to the All-Big Ten third team. Nebraska’s Spencer Schwellenbach is the Big Ten’s Player of the Year, Nebraska’s Max Anderson its Freshman of the Year and Nebraska’s Will Bolt its Coach of the Year.
The Cornhuskers won the Big Ten championship with a 31-12 record. Iowa finished in a tie for fourth place with Indiana at 26-18.
The NCAA will reveal the 64 teams to make postseason regional play Monday.
