Iowa City runners dominate MVC

Iowa City High and rival Iowa City West girls cross country teams are dominating the top spots in the Mississippi Valley Conference, according to the latest conference report. As of Sept. 18, both teams led their respective divisions and hold eight of the top 11 individual times.Entering this week's competition, Class 4A second-ranked City High sat atop the Mississippi Division with a 37-0 and occupied the top three spots for individual performances this season. Little Hawk senior Rebecca Rethwisch, the top-ranked 4A individual, owns the MVC's fastest time at 14:28, 10 seconds ahead of teammate Erin Danielson, who is second. City High's Meg Richardson is third with 15:01. Sophomore Courtney Bruns has a season-best time of 15:36, which is 11th in the conference.Not to be outdone, No. 4 West leads the Valley Division with a 58-3 mark. Women of Troy sophomores Pombie Silverman (15:16) and Molly Leveille (15:17) are fourth and fifth, followed closely by Taylor Fehlberg (15:21), who is sixth. West's Brett Guerra has the MVC's eighth-best time at 15:25.
