IOWA CITY — Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz said offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz would meet with Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta today about an incident in the Kinnick Stadium press box at halftime of the Hawkeyes' game against Minnesota last Saturday night.
Brian Ferentz had loud, angry and obscenity-filled words as he and fellow Hawkeyes coaches went from their coaching booth to the press box elevator at halftime. They presumably were directed at a replay official in the press box for a call late in the first half that ruled Iowa running back James Butler had the ball stripped from him before being down.
Without prompting in his postgame press conference, Kirk Ferentz said he didn't know complete details about the incident, but said what he heard was 'inappropriate' and said it would be addressed.
'It is serious,' he said on Tuesday morning's Big Ten football coaches teleconference, 'mainly because it's inappropriate. I addressed it with him, and his supervisor, Gary Barta, will be addressing with him today. We've also made the conference aware of it. It's inappropriate and it can't happen again.
'No matter what your profession is, there are things you can do and can't do, and what happened Saturday was inappropriate.'
Brian Ferentz is in his sixth season as an Iowa assistant coach and first season as offensive coordinator.
