The Indiana Pacers waived 2016 second-round draft pick Georges Niang on Friday, the team announced.
The former Iowa State forward played in 23 games for Indiana last year, totaling 21 points and 17 rebounds. He averaged 19.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists in six starts with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Indiana's D-League affiliate.
Niang, who ranks second on ISU's all-time scoring list with 2,228 career points, injured his knee a few minutes into Indiana's Orlando summer league opener. The Pacers still owe him $100,000 according to the Indianapolis Star.

The news came a few hours after The Vertical reported that one of Niang's former ISU teammates, Abdel Nader, agreed to a four-year deal with the Boston Celtics worth $6 million.
The Celtics took Nader, a 6-foot-6, 225-pound wing, with the No. 58 overall pick in the 2016 draft. He was named D-League Rookie of the Year after averaging 21.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists for the Maine Red Claws, Boston's D-League affiliate.
