IGHSAU releases regional assignments

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union have released the regional assignments for girls' swimming and diving postseason. Regional diving events will be held Thursday, Oct. 28 and swimming competition will be Saturday, Oct. 30. Swimmers will be vying for berths to the state tournament Nov. 5-6 at the Horne Henry Center at the Marshalltown YMCA.Cedar Rapids Jefferson will a nine-team regional. The J-Hawks will be joined by Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Cedar Rapids Prairie-Williamsburg, Cedar Rapids Washington, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Clinton, Iowa City West, Linn-Mar and Tipton. Currently, West is fourth in the the IGHSAU team power rankings with Kennedy and Linn-Mar at 12th and 13th, respectively.Decorah and Vinton-Shellsburg will travel to Cedar Falls, competing against the Tigers, fifth in the power rankings, Charles City, all three Dubuque schools and both Waterloo programs.Iowa City High heads to Muscatine for a 10-team regional, including Bettendorf, Burlington, Davenport Central, North and West, Fairfield, Keokuk, and Pleasant Valley.Des Moines Roosevelt, Fort Dodge and SE Polk also host regional meets.The regional champions in each swim event, plus the next 18 best times from across the state, qualify for the state championships. The top four divers at each regional and the next best 12 11-dive scores from across the state will advance to the state meet.
