Huskies' Hembera hits 1,000

CEDAR RAPIDS -- Shelby Hembera needed only 49 games to reach 1,000 for her career.The junior from Cedar Valley Christian reached the milestone Saturday when she scored all 40 of the Huskies' points in a 61-40 loss to Don Bosco.A versatile 6-footer, Hembera is averaging a state-high 33 points per game this season. The Huskies are 0-7.Hembera scored 335 points as a freshman, 461 as a sophomore. She has 231 of the Huskies' 250 points so far this season, boosting her career total to 1,027.Her career scoring average is 20.9 points per game.
