Hlists, Week 5 in college football: Michigan owns the news

Sep. 29, 2014 12:19 pm
Week 5 was less than sizzling in college football. The two most-interesting things that happened were at the Minnesota-Michigan game.
One, Michigan got mauled at home, again. Two, the Wolverines left a quarterback in the game who clearly was woozy.
The former was good for Minnesota. The latter wasn't too great for college football.
Now, on with this week's Hlists.

QUOTES
1. 'We don't play for the fans.. We play for each other and for our families. That's one of the big things the coaches say, and I firmly believe that. The fans are with us when we win and sometimes they're against us when we lose, so we're definitely not playing for the fans.” - Pitt wide receiver Manasseh Garner after his team's 21-10 loss to Akron.
2. 'We've got to tighten down even more. We got to be more disciplined in every phase of everything we do whether it's class attendance, whether it's sitting up straight in meetings, across the board we have to be more disciplined in everything we do, period. We've got to tighten the screws down because I don't want to keep doing this. I don't want to keep having guys play their butt off but we can't execute well enough to win. And all I know to do is make it harder than it's ever been in every phase because that's what this game is now.” - New Mexico Coach Bob Davie after his team's 35-24 loss to Fresno State Friday night.
3. 'I think this team can still win the championship. I really do.” - Michigan Coach Brady Hoke after the Wolverines lost 30-14 to Minnesota in their Big Ten opener and fell to 2-3 overall.
