MHSHL Opening Night This FridayThe 14-team Midwest High School Hockey League will launch its 2010-2011 season this Friday night, October 29, when the Waterloo Warriors host the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and the Lincoln Jr. Stars visit Sioux City to play the Metros.Opening weekend will see a key early-season matchup when the Kansas City Jr. Outlaws pay a visit to the Des Moines Capitals for Saturday and Sunday games. The Capitals are the defending 2009-10 regular-season Varsity champions; the Jr. Outlaws finished only 3 points behind in second place. The same two teams battled in the championship game during the 2010 year-end tournament with the Caps coming out on top, 3-0.In the Junior Varsity division, the Kansas City Stars are the defending regular-season champions. Waterloo was the 2010 year-end tournament champion.Other 2-game home stands on Saturday and Sunday have Omaha hosting the Des Moines Oak Leafs, Quad Cities at Waterloo, Dubuque at Lincoln, and the Kansas City Stars visiting Cedar Rapids.Ames, Mason City and Sioux Falls will see action the following weekend.MHSHL teams play a 32-game schedule in both the Varsity and JV divisions. The top eight teams advance to the Varsity Championship tournament in Ames February 25-27, and the JV tournament the following week on March 4-6.The 2011 MHSHL East-West All-Star Game will showcase the League's top talent in a Saturday matchup during the Junior Varsity tournament.Thanks!
